Tuning diesel cars is a little trickier than tuning petrol engines but there are some great improvements to be had. Diesels use different compression ratios to create power and their engines operate at lower revs. As a result, they don’t see as big a benefit from the usual tuning based on cam/valve lift and air flow (although you can still improve this by adding an intake and exhaust).
Diesel engines are also more complex in their operation as they rely on a mixture of air, fuel and injection to produce power. This means they run a bit lean as a rule to keep temperatures low and prevent black smoke in the exhaust. However, a remap can correct this by changing the mixture and adjusting the injection timing to release more power at all revs.
Precision Power: Navigating the Benefits and Process of Diesel Engine Tune-Ups
Modern systems can re-map your car’s computer through an OBD port, modifying the parameters that control the engine to release more power throughout the entire rev range. This will not only make the vehicle more responsive, but will also improve mpg as the engine is operating more efficiently.
We can perform a diesel tune on almost any type of diesel vehicle, from a small VW Jetta through to a Freightliner semi-truck. We can even remap your truck to get more performance from a standard engine and support it with a range of diesel upgrades such as high-flow exhausts, free-flowing intercoolers, heavy-duty clutches and the like. This will ensure that all the extra diesel torque is able to get to the road and not be wasted.
